You may be wondering the $2000 question: Why are the Havanese so wonderful? Let me start by telling you about how we got involved with these wonderful dogs.

It all started in 1994. Because the kids were all in elementary school we felt they were finally old enough to have a puppy (they had been begging for one since they were old enough to say "puppy" and "dog"). Concerned with the allergic reactions that some people have to dogs, we researched and found out that the Havanese is a hypoallergenic breed, with very little dander and odor. In fact, if fed a good diet and groomed on a regular basis, the coat of the Havanese characteristically does not aggravate the allergies of most dander-sensitive people. Since we got our first Havanese on February 10, 1995, we have not regretted the decision for a moment.

But, you may want to look elsewhere if you're looking for a dog

1. that can be left alone for extended periods of time
2. that requires no training
3. that can go for months on end without bathing or brushing
4. a pet that never, ever barks

or

5. a full-time outside dog.

Given the attributes of these breed, they are rapidly becoming one of the most popular breeds of dogs, despite having only gone AKC in the last decade.
