A'achera Havanese Puppies

The story of A'achera began a long, long time ago in a far away place. Nearly 15 years ago, before Havanese were even recognized as an AKC breed, we became involved. After countless phone calls to several breeders, we finally found the right one, and waited for our first Havanese. He arrived on February 10, 1995 and it was love at first sight all around. Despite our indecision, we finally decided to name him Capitan (or Capi), and he has continued to captivate our hearts to this very day. Capitan shared his love in a home with three (human) children; some observers might even suggest he thought he was one of the kids. He had an exciting show career, and thoroughly enjoyed going to shows and meeting lots of new friends. As a result, he received his HCA championship very early in his career.

After a year of enjoying our Capitan, we decided to adopt more havanese. Capi had to go through an adjustment period, having to share his 3 kids with 2 new puppies. (No one had told us that new dogs have to adjust to each other.) In the end, they all became good friends. Our new puppies brought us as much love as Capi had. Our new family members were a male named Ned and a female named Cherie. Just as Capitan, they too, have remained part of our family until this day. Ned, or Neddie, is now an international/ ARBA champion.

Along the way, we have gotten our taste of dog fancier clubs. We have participated with the local chapter, as well as with the national chapter, going to events, sharing our dogs, having a good time and enjoying them so much that we could never get enough!

Then came along Halley and Cevilla, two more adoreable additions to our family.

Since we began our breeding program, we have had about 1 or 2 litters each year. Parents are carefully picked, and each female gets special attention and extra nutrition during pregnancy and lactation. We begin handling puppies as soon as they're born, so they are very affectionate and used to human companionship. We've been very lucky in our breeding program - we've never had any major issues or problems and we always have loving dogs. In seeking out adoptive families, we look for people that are willing and able to devote time to training their new family member, and who are expecting a family pet, not wanting to show or breed. Unfortunately, we cannot ship puppies alone; however adoptive parents are welcome to fly out and carry-on a puppy back with them in the cabin.
